COMMUNITY CELEBRATION
OF LIFE FOR CB

In Carl’s spirit of challenging formats, transforming spaces, and asking us to engage and meet in new and meaningful ways this is an extension to the people and communities moved by him to grieve, process, and celebrate together. This event was put on by SEEN and many friends of Carls.

The day following Carl Bogner’s memorial at UWM, we invited all he’s moved to join us as we share books, films, zines, poems, songs and artifacts to celebrate all the Art and Community he’s helped bring into this world.

Daytime karaoke, group filmmaking, screened video works. Lion’s Tooth, Queer Zine Archive Project, and Woodland Pattern tabled Carl inspired selections. SEEN showed a film block of shorts by various makers that were inspired, guided, or featured Carl. Jordy Brazo brought his Waiting for Takeout Zines, Brit Gunderson hosted a scratch film activity, DJs brit.anyone, Nature, Orb, and ghost of Sara Caron played music throughout the day, Classic SLice provided pizza for all, and an entire table built of additional community art and contrubitions was hosted.

In addition to this SEEN is put together an online showcase as an extension of our screening March 23rd and an ongoing archival project towards honoring CB as our mentor and force in film to so many.

As we worked together and with so many others to create an in person space to meet in a space of grief and community it only becomes more clear that this is a long form process and that we are all on our own routes, but we intend to find ways to allow ourselves and others to meet, to intersect, to remember.
