FILTH! 200 Rooms: Transients Welcome

Butches hauled in couches from all over our new favorite diy venue (Not Not) to accommodate the crowd brave enough to watch a movie they knew next to nothing about get remixed in real time. 200 Rooms: Transients Welcome took a low budget seedy cinema featuring hustling teenage boys, timeless alley shots, and vintage footage of the cities infamous gay film theater: Bijou World. Shot in Chicago in the Mid 00’s to intermix these vintage clips, the film saw likely its only return to it’s home under this new title and mixed in a 90s analog mixer by M.O. Guzman.

About FILTH! Placing together queer history and queer presence in Cinema, we ask you to enter and expand the annals of Queer Film. With this series we showcase queer erotica past and present, centralizing queer desire to remind us of our histories. From vintage arthouse pornos, 80s-90s backroom home movies, 00s web boom, and into the tech fueled world of the 2010s to present we contextualize queer desire through multiple lenses. As we fight for physical queer spaces today and find ourselves equipped with cameras/computers in our pockets and generations of underseen queer history at our disposal, where do we go?

This is our proposal to you, but let us warn you… it’s FILTHY!

J. Barrett is a Chicago based, Trans, Non-Binary, Queer artist obsessed with channeling the nuances of identity through collage. Using found materials and shaping them into portals of connection for the viewer, J invites you into to meet the moment with curiosity. They are passionate about using cultural references as a playful yet critical lens that challenges traditional norms to highlight tabooed boundaries within sexuality and contemporary society. Born from a closeted faggot pastor, my existence is a reclamation of denied truth. As a child I was raised on fear-mongering allagories warning of the perils of self-love. Now i write my own stories through visual perversion, splaying change incarnate through the multitudes of queer freaks who built a linage of resistance through care before me. This image deconstructs the myth that to be trans is anything other than divine. Seven needles sourced from freaks all around Chicago community circle the center as 7 bloody blessings. Each figure printed has been printed from archival materials sourced through Gerber Hart and The Leather Archives. Breaking the binary of black and white thinking, set against a background of primary colors to remind the viewer - we are genesis. Take a bite, baby.
